Refrigerator evaporator coils are an essential component of a refrigerator’s cooling system. Located inside the freezer compartment, these coils are responsible for absorbing heat from from inside the fridge and releasing it outside the appliance.
The refrigeration process starts when the compressor compresses the refrigerant gas, increasing its temperature and pressure causing it to become a hot, high-pressure vapor. The vapor then passes through the condenser coils, usually on the back or bottom of the refrigerator.
As the hot vapor passes through the condenser coils, it releases its heat to the surrounding air, causing the vapor to cool and condense into a liquid. The cooled liquid then passes through an expansion valve, which reduces the pressure and temperature of the liquid.
The low-pressure, low-temperature liquid is then passed through the evaporator coils located inside the freezer compartment. As the liquid passes through the coils, it absorbs heat from the surrounding air, causing it to evaporate back into a gas. This process removes heat from the air inside the fridge, cooling it down.
The refrigerant gas is then returned to the compressor to start the process all over again. This continuous cycle of compression, condensation, expansion, and evaporation keeps the contents of your fridge cool.
